How To Join

The Girls Rock Camp Alliance is an international coalition of organizations whose shared mission is to empower girls and women using the tools of music education to foster self-esteem and confidence. There are currently 29 full affiliate organizations, and the GRCA is operating as a program of Rock and Roll Camp For Girls in Portland, Oregon until it receives independent 501c3 non-profit status.

Becoming a GRCA member aligns your program with a network of girls rock camps and projects that share similar values and goals.  Benefits of joining GRCA include networking, curriculum sharing, training, development assistance, camper referrals, and the opportunity to participate at the GRCA’s annual conference, which brings together representatives from camps and like-minded programs from around the world.

As a first step in the application process, please review the enclosed materials to determine if the values and practices of your organization seem like a good fit with the standards and values of the Girls Rock Camp Alliance. If you decide to apply, your completed application will be reviewed by the GRCA Board, which is made up of representatives of current full members of the GRCA.

If your application is approved, your initial member status will be set at PENDING until further notice. Pending member organizations can freely utilize GRCA networking and program sharing and link to member sites. More information on pending and full membe status is detailed below. If your application is denied, GRCA will provide an explanation and list of recommendations in order to be reconsidered for membership at a future time.

Feel free to contact any of our members for further information about why they joined the GRCA, what its like to be a member, and other questions you may have. If you have questions about the application process, please email kate@girlsrockcampalliance.org or call +1 (503) 459-8343. Once your application is complete, please email it as a Word doc or PDF along with any supporting documents to kate@girlsrockcampalliance.org.

Thank you so much for your time and energy in answering our questions and providing as much of the requested documentation as possible.  You will receive an email notification that we are processing your application.

Pending Member camps have had their application for membership approved. Pending members may be on Working Committees and attend the conference. Pending membership status can be taken away if it is found that the program does not match GRCA standard of values, is unwelcoming to a site visit, or is otherwise unwilling to participate as GRCA founding members have deemed appropriate of GRCA members. Pending Members cannot vote at the Annual Members Meeting.

Full Member status is secured by providing an application and all materials, attending a GRCA conference, and holding at least one session of camp or other equivalent programming. Full Member camps can vote in the Annual Member Meeting, and have one vote per camp.

A site visit entails any GRCA member program sending someone to visit another GRCA member or pending member’s program with the purpose of seeing their program in action, reviewing the budget, attending a board meeting and/or meeting with a board member, and possibly volunteering at the program.

The steps to Pending Membership are as follows:

  • Read the Mission and Core Values on the website
  • Email a letter of inquiry to grca@girlsrockcampalliance.org
  • Fill out an application and pay the $20 application fee.
  • Receive approval of the application and an invitation to the conference.

  • Agree to the Mission and Core Values of the GRCA
  • Pay an annual program fee, which is .0016 of the organization’s previously completed fiscal year, and not less than $20. For example, an organization with a budget of 2,000 would pay $20, and an organization with a budget of 20,000 would pay $32.
